Introduction

Many people question me when hearing that I decided to leave the nursing field. This may be considered uncommon to some considering my income, steady paycheck, no lack of available work, benefits and a pension plan.

My mental wellness was being affected and I am a firm believer that you can’t take care of others without taking care of yourself. How was I to do this when I could hardly keep up with self-care because of the shiftwork in my career?

Background

I remember becoming fascinated with mental illness in my early high school years and was thrilled to discover a nursing field where I could provide direct care for those who needed assistance.
